Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) Course Design

Course Description

This course is offered on by the University of Nebraska Kearney on our UNK Advance platform in partnership with the Online Learning Consortium.Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) learning provides opportunities for students to participate in classes either as a fully online student, a classroom student, or in any blend of participation modes. Students have the freedom and responsibility to choose an appropriate path for learning based on their situation – experience, learning progress, schedule, and other commitments. Faculty are challenged to provide an effective learning path online and, in the classroom, so that any choice of participation mode will lead to achieving learning outcomes. In this workshop, you will begin the process of designing your first HyFlex course.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the characteristics, benefits, and challenges of HyFlex course designs
  2. Draft a high-level design plan for a HyFlex course, including learning outcomes, content, assessment, and engagement

Target Learner

This course is for educators and instructional designers who want to design HyFlex courses that provide students with flexible learning options while maintaining consistent outcomes across modalities.
