Facilitating Online Group Work
Course Description
This course is offered through UNK Advance in partnership with the Online Learning Consortium.
The term “group work” often produces groans of displeasure from students and faculty alike. Faculty have been told that collaborative problem solving is a 21st century skill that students need, yet faculty rarely receive training in how to employ group work in online settings. Students claim to not like working in groups, mostly because they have had a negative experience in the past working in groups. Since much learning theory shows us that learning is social, why isn’t group work more popular? Does it even work in online environments?
This self-paced workshop will dive deeper into the common reasons why groups fail, and provide effective strategies for designing, facilitating, and evaluating online group work. Participants will leave the self-paced workshop with a toolkit of resources to promote student efficiency and satisfaction with online group work.
