Eat Healthy, Be Active
Course Description
This course will increase participants’ awareness of the problem of obesity in early childhood, including statistics about obesity rates and causes and risk factors that contribute to childhood obesity. Participants will leave the class with a better understanding of strategies for addressing obesity in ECE settings, key concepts that preschool-age children can learn about healthy eating and physical activity, and hands on activities to teach healthy eating and physical activity to 3- to 5-year-olds within the ECE curriculum.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will define childhood obesity and will list risks of obesity in children and risk factors contributing to childhood obesity
- Participants will list and briefly describe the key concepts of the Eat Healthy, Be Active initiative (eat breakfast, eat a variety of foods, stop eating when full, drink water, be physically active)
- Participants will briefly explain why being a role model is important for teaching young children about healthy eating and physical activity
