Course Description

This microcredential in Human Relations Training is designed to enhance learners’ interpersonal effectiveness in diverse educational and professional settings. Through a series of interactive and reflective learning experiences, participants will explore the foundations of human relations with an emphasis on multicultural awareness, identity development, and inclusive communication strategies.

Learners will gain insights into how culture, background, and personal experiences shape individual and group behavior. The course fosters self-awareness and empathy while providing practical tools for engaging respectfully and effectively with students, families, colleagues, and community members from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds.

By the end of the course, participants will be better prepared to build positive relationships, navigate conflict, and contribute to a supportive, equitable environment in educational and workplace contexts.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. An awareness and understanding of the values, lifestyles, contributions, and history of a pluralistic society.
  2. The ability to recognize and deal with dehumanizing biases, including but not limited to sexism, racism, prejudice, and discrimination, and an awareness of the impact such biases have on interpersonal relations.
  3. The ability to translate knowledge of human relations into attitudes, skills, and techniques that result in favorable experiences for students.
  4. The ability to recognize how dehumanizing biases may be reflected in instructional materials.
  5. Respect for human dignity and individual rights; and
  6. The ability to relate effectively to other individuals and to groups in a pluralistic society other than the teacher’s own.
