Course Description

This training provides an in-depth exploration of substance use within the Hispanic cultural context. Participants will gain culturally informed knowledge and practical tools to better support Hispanic individuals and families impacted by substance use. The course highlights the intersection of cultural values, stigma, systemic barriers, and access to care, while promoting culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches.

Learning Objectives

  1. Examine cultural values, beliefs, and systemic barriers that shape Hispanic communities’ experiences with substance use and treatment.  
  2. Analyze the impact of stigma, social determinants of health, and gaps in culturally competent care on access, engagement, and outcomes.  
  3. Apply culturally responsive strategies to enhance service delivery, increase access to care, and advocate effectively within Hispanic communities. 

Target Learner

The target learner for this training is Mental health professionals, substance use counselors, social workers, and healthcare providers who work with or serve Hispanic/Latinx populations.
