Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the area of self-harm, why young people self-injure, how to recognize self-harm, and explore the triggers and predictors to self-harm. Useful interventions and therapeutic modalities will also be discussed. Further, this course examines the differences between non-suicidal self-injury and genuine suicide risk. Participants will learn how to effectively assess for suicide risk and plan for safety.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the causes, triggers, and predictors of self harm in youth.
  2. Differentiate between non-suicidal self-injury and genuine suicide risk in adolescents.
  3. Implement effective risk assessments and safety planning strategies for youth in crisis.
