Course Description

In recent years, neurodivergent identities have become increasingly visible in the public eye, especially through social media. Mental health providers are now more likely than ever to encounter adult clients who identify as neurodivergent. This course will provide a foundational understanding of neurodivergence in adults, the impact of late diagnosis, and common misdiagnoses and differentials. Emphasis will be placed on therapeutic considerations and affirming care practices. Participants will gain practical strategies to support neurodivergent adults in outpatient therapy settings and an understanding of when to refer for evaluation. 

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe key clinical features of Autism and ADHD in adults, including differences in presentation across the lifetime. 
  2. Differentiate between symptoms of neurodivergence and co-occurring conditions. 
  3. Apply affirming and effective evidence-based clinical strategies to support neurodivergent adult clients.
